"When Cranes Converge" was painted on location at the Joe Wheeler Wildlife Refuge Center during the crane migration in Decatur, Alabama. Every winter lots of Sandhill Cranes and a few Whooping Cranes migrate to the center where they can be observed and admired from afar. The local area celebrates their arrival with a festival. I captured the moment in January, 2026 with my fellow artists of the North Alabama Plein Air group.
